For this issue, we asked members of the Cheers National Wine Panel to recommend some of their favorite zinfandels. As always, these selections include brief tasting notes, a rating and the wine’s retail price (which varies from store to store and market to market).
2 oz. Bluecoat American Dry gin
1 oz. St. Germain elderflower liqueur
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
Splash of Chambord
Shake all ingredients over ice and serve in martini glass.

Santana Strawberry Margarita
2 oz. Espolon Reposado Tequila
1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz. Triple Sec
½ oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1 oz. Simple Syrup
2 oz Strawberry Puree*
Combine all into mixing glass. Pack with ice and shake vigorously for 15 – 20 seconds. Strain into margarita glass with salt rim. Garnish with lime wedge.
*Strawberry Puree
1 pint fresh strawberries stemmed
2 oz simple syrup (add more or less depending on sweetness/tartness of strawberries)
Place strawberries and add simple syrup in blender. Blend ingredients until smooth puree forms.

Kirk and Sweeneyis now available from 35 Maple Street, the spirits division of The Other Guys. The handcrafted, 12-year-old premium spirit is named after a wooden schooner best known for smuggling rum from the Caribbean during Prohibition. The rum is made in the Dominican Republic and aged for 12 years in American oak barrels.
New Malibu Bottle
Malibu, the rum and coconut liqueur, recently unveiled a new bottle design. The logo, typography and bottle design are all new, designed to celebrate Malibu’s spirit, according to the company. The bottle is more slender with higher shoulders, and a half-moon shaped “Malibu” appears over the palm tree logo.

Sometimes a drink is more than a drink. If the cocktail has a classic name, and heritage, it’s often better not to reinvent the wheel. But if it is a new take on some of the same old ingredients, a sexy name never hurts.
