Benromach 1974 Speyside Scotch

02/09/2017

by: Kyle Swartz

Importer Vision Wine & Spirits has announce the release of a limited availability of Benromach 1974, a single-cask malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside producer.

After 41 years maturing in a sherry butt, Benromach 1974 (ABV: 49.1%) is a golden amber color with sherry influences infused with sultana, green apple and orange peel flavors, the company reports, with underlying hints of beeswax polish, menthol and dark chocolate.

Holding this Speyside malt is a decanter-style bottle: the contours of the neck and shoulder line are “sculpted to represent copper stills whilst a copper-colored neck collar adds a luxurious touch,” the company says. The presentation box is inspired by the home of Benromach, also reflecting the copper of the stills in use today, as well as the dark, grained wood of the original washbacks and the white of the lime washed distillery walls. A book accompanies the whisky, delving into the Benromach history.

This limited-edition dates back to a time before the Urquhart family brought Benromach Distillery back to life in the 1990s. “Benromach 1974, cask number 1583, is incredibly rare, as very few casks of Benromach remain from that time,” says Distillery Manager Keith Cruickshank.

Vision Wine & Spirits has 40 750-ml bottles available for the U.S. and they will each retail for a suggested price of $1,700. Retailers interested in obtaining a bottle should reach out for their local Vision Wine & Spirits Manager or email Vision Wine & Spirits for further information at info@visionwineandspirits.com.
