Devils Backbone Brewing Co. Fall Seasonal Releases

09/26/2016

by: Kyle Swartz

Devils Backbone Brewing Company will release new seasonal beers this October from three different series.

The next Trail Blazer brew will be Kilt Flasher, a Scottish ale. The draft-only Peak series release will be Tectonic Barleywine. And there will also be a new Adventure Pack sampler full of beers previously only available on draft at the Basecamp Brewpub & Meadows (Roseland, VA): Flor de Luna, Smokehouse Porter, Berliner Weiss, and Single Hop IPA.

“These beers make up one of our most dynamic releases to date,” says Brewmaster Jason Oliver. “You have strong, malty, smoky, tart, floral, and hoppy flavors represented.”

Brewer notes:

Kilt Flasher (8% ABV, 20 IBU): Brown with ruby highlights, Kilt Flasher is a robust ale with toffee and toasted malt flavors. Much like the early Scottish settlers of the Virginia Highlands, it has a robustness that stands up to anything. Available in six-pack bottles and on draft, October through December

The following beers are available in mixed 12-pack bottles and draft, October through December:

Tectonic Barleywine (11.6% ABV, 50 IBU): Brewer with six imported malts and two hops. This is a full, savory beer, the company says. The Peak Series is a brewer’s selection program. Available as draft-only in October
Adventure Pack

Flor De Luna (6.3% ABV, 21 IBU): A Belgian-style blonde ale with the fruity and flowery aromas of jasmine.

Smokehouse Porter (5.7% ABV, 41 IBU): Two types of smoked malts layer on top of dark crystal, brown, and chocolate malt to create a smoky, toasty, rich black ale.

Berliner Weiss (3.9% ABV, 7 IBU): A German-style sour ale. Pale straw in color, with a light body and a tart refreshing acidity.

Single Hop IPA (7.9% ABV, 77 IBU): Light in color and body, this strong pale ale was “designed to have a clean malt profile to showcase the single hop variety used: Equinox,” the company says.

These releases are available throughout the Devils Backbone distribution footprint of Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

In 2008, Devils Backbone founders Steve Crandall and his wife Heidi, inspired by a skiing trip where they had their first taste of German beer, opened the doors to Devils Backbone Brewing Company in Roseland, Virginia, the company says.
