Named after the Yellow Rose of Texas — a traditional song of the state that dates back to General Sam Houston’s 1836 victory at the battle of San Jacinto — Yellow Rose Distilling was founded in 2010. It is Houston’s first legal whiskey distillery.
To meet growing product demand and to connect with consumers, the company moved operations to a 10,000-square-foot production facility and tasting room on the edge of Uptown Houston in the fall of 2014. Featuring a 600-gallon mash ton, two 600-gallon fermenters and a 600-gallon whiskey still, current production capabilities exceed 10,000 cases per year.
Their products include:
Outlaw Bourbon Whiskey: Distilled and aged at the Houston distillery in 10-gallon American white oak barrels, Outlaw Bourbon Whiskey owes its sweet, full-flavored finish to a recipe that utilizes 100% corn and a traditional pot still. 46% ABV. The suggested retail price is $54.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Straight Rye Whiskey: Made from a 95% rye mashbill custom sourced for Yellow Rose, distilled by a handful of distilleries throughout Texas, aged at least four years, blended and bottled in Houston. The limited-release whiskey is good for classic cocktails, and has a medium finish with less pepper than most rye whiskeys. 45% ABV. The suggested retail price is $37.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Blended Whiskey: Partially distilled onsite and partially distilled by partner distilleries. With a higher bourbon content than most Canadian blends, Yellow Rose offers a robust taste that’s ideal on the rocks or in spirit-forward cocktails. 46% ABV. The suggested retail price is $29.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Last year to cement national expansion, Yellow Rose partnered with Atlanta-based Blue Ridge Spirits. Redesigned packaging and additional products will launch in the next six months.
