Basil Hayden Launches Malted Rye Whiskey

09/19/2023

by: The Staff

Basil Hayden has expanded its whiskey portfolio with the launch of a new permanent expression, Basil Hayden Malted Rye.

Made by eighth-generation Master Distiller Freddie Noe, this release uses a malting process that “transforms the rye grain to create a more subtle, mellow spice with delicate sweet and floral notes,” the company says. The goal is exposing consumers to the refined side of rye, with the liquid positioned between Basil Hayden’s traditionally smooth taste profile and the spicier notes of rye.

“We are continuing to challenge perceptions with our newest permanent expression, Basil Hayden Malted Rye, introducing an entirely new flavor profile within the whiskey category,” says Noe. “It delivers a more refined side, an unexpected softness and approachability, creating a new way to experience rye.”

Light amber in color, with a 100% malted rye mash bill, this whiskey has a floral aroma, with soft notes of vanilla and toasted rye on the palate, the company reports, before a warm spice finish.

Basil Hayden Malted Rye is 80 proof. Hitting shelves this month, it retails for the suggested price of $59.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

From Jim Beam, this follows the launch of Little Book Chapter 7: In Retrospect blended whiskey.
