Day Of The Dead Drinks For 2021

Day Of The Dead Punch

After the excitement, costumes and candy of Halloween, the Day of the Dead—Día de los Muertos—provides a time to celebrate those we’ve lost. Specialty tequila or mezcal cocktails are in order for this Mexican holiday: Here are five drink recipes we like. And for more Day of the Dead options, check out last year’s lineup.

Ofrenda cocktail

Ofrenda

Course Drinks
Keyword lemon, mandarin juice, tequila

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Milagro Reposado teuila
  • 1 part Fresh mandarin juice
  • ½ part Fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ part Green cardamom orange blossom honey syrup
  • ½ part Egg white

Instructions

  • Pour all ingredients into a Boston shaker with ice.
  • Shake vigorously and double strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with edible marigold.

Pan De Muertos cocktail

Pan De Muertos

Course Drinks
Keyword Lemon-lime soda, orange liqueur, Orgeat syrup, Patron

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz. Patron Reposado tequila
  • ½ oz. Orgeat
  • ¾ oz. Lime juice
  • ½ oz. Orange liqueur
  • ½ oz. Pineapple juice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to shaker.
  • Shake and strain into highball or skull mug with crushed ice.
  • Garnish with caramelized orange wedge and 3 pineapple leaves.

Keyword jalepeno, lime, Lobos 1707 Joven tequila, pineapple

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz. Lobos 1707 Joven tequila
  • 1 oz. Pineapple juice
  • 1 oz. Fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. Simple syrup
  • 3 Slices jalapeno

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients into a shake.
  • Add ice and shake until chilled.
  • Strain into a coupe glass.
  • Garnish with a jalapeno slice.

Day Of The Dead Punch

Course Drinks
Keyword cardamom, fig, Mezcal Campante, Plum syrup, taramind

Ingredients

  • 1 Black Mission fig diced
  • 4 Cardamom pods or ⅔ tsp. dried cardamom
  • 1 oz. Plum syrup
  • 1 oz. Mezcal Campante
  • ½ oz. Tamarind concentrate
  • 1 oz. Egg whites
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • 2 drops Angostura orange bitters

Instructions

  • Place diced fig diced, cardamom and sugar in mixing glass and crush with the mortar.
  • Add the other ingredients and pour into the Boston shaker.
  • Shake well and strain over ice into an Old Fashioned glass.
  • Garnish with marigold flowers.

Notes

If tamarind concentrate or paste is not available, use equal parts lime juice and dark brown sugar. The mixologists at Mezcal Campante created this recipe.
Palomita de Oaxaca

Palomita de Oaxaca

Course Drinks
Keyword Código 1530 Mezcal, grapefruit, lime, mango

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Código 1530 Mezcal
  • 1 oz. Mango purée
  • ½ oz. Lime juice
  • 1 oz. Grapefruit
  • Top soda

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake.
  • Pour into a tall glass with ice.
  • Garnish with fresh grapefruit peel.
