Among the most famous and awarded bars in the world suffered heavy fire damage over the weekend.
Flames broke out at The Dead Rabbit, located in Manhattan’s Financial District, early Saturday morning, according to reports.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
“We’re still getting details, but The Dead Rabbit received considerable fire and water damage and as a result will be closed until further notice,” the bar posted on its social media pages. “Fortunately no one has been hurt. Thank you for your support and understanding at this very difficult time. We’ll let you know more here as soon as we find out.”
The Dead Rabbit opened in 2012, and earned the title of Worlds Best Bar in the 2015 Spirits Awards at Tales of the Cocktail. The bar was in the middle of plans to double in size by expanding into an adjacent location.
Owners of The Dead Rabbit said the business would close indefinitely until they ascertain the full extent of the damage.
