10/02/2017

by: The Staff

The 420-acre Hunter Valley, Australia winery Hope Estate has unveiled a new look as it brings new wines to America.

The packaging will debut at retailers nationwide beginning this October through the Winesellers wholesaler network.

The newly announced Hope Estate collection includes: Mountain Wash Chardonnay (SRP: $14), Wollombi Brook Semillon ($14), Basalt Block Shiraz ($14) and Ripper Shiraz ($17). These feature “estate grown grapes to achieve consistency of style and quality across vintages,” the company says.

  • Mountain Wash Estate Chardonnay – Hunter Valley. This single-vineyard wine is grown on the Mountain Wash vineyard, which lies under the Wollemi range.
  • Wollombi Brook Estate Semillon – Hunter Valley. The region is known for producing a Semillon with a little more acid than its Bordeaux counterpart.
  • Basalt Block Estate Shiraz – Hunter Valley. Located among the hills of the Broken Back Mountain Range. The range was formed by volcanic activity, leading to rich red soil.
  • The Ripper Shiraz – Western Geographe. The Ripper Shiraz grapes are produced from Hope Estate’s vineyards in the Western Geographe Region of the west coast of Australia. “The cool hills of Donnybrook give the wine amazing elegance while retaining the classic spicy shiraz characters,” the company says.

Hope Estate is overseen by pharmacist-turned-entrepeneur Michael Hope. Hope’s former winemaker Peter Howland, who was traveling to vineyard sites throughout the world to produce wine, recently returned as Hope Estate’s group winemaker.
