AB InBev Buys Karbach Brewing Of Texas

11/03/2016

by: Kyle Swartz

Global drinks giant AB InBev has continued its strategy of scooping up craft breweries by buying Karbach Brewing of Houston, TX.

Karbach will join The High End, the business unit within Anheuser-Busch that focuses on craft and import brands.

In 2013, two years after Karbach launched, the brewery produced 17,000 barrels of beer, reaching 40,000 barrels just over a year later. The brewery then expanded capacity by building a new brewhouse at the end of 2014.

Karbach opened an on-site restaurant, tap room and biergarten last May. The company expanded from Houston to the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex region in June of 2015. Karbach’s flagship beer is Hopadillo IPA.

Anheuser-Busch plans to invest in Karbach to realize a brewing capacity of 150,000 barrels per year by 2019, the company says.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This is the eighth craft brewery purchased by AB InBev, joining Goose Island Beer Co., Blue Point Brewing Company, 10 Barrel Brewing, Elysian Brewing Company, Golden Road Brewing, Breckenridge Brewery and Four Peaks Brewery.

Other brands in The High End are Stella Artois, Shock Top, Virtue Cider, Four Peaks, and SpikedSeltzer.
