· CHEERS WINE PANEL: Zinfandel
We invited members of the Cheers National Wine Panel to recommend some zinfandels they’ve recently tasted. The selections they came up with range from super fruity to peppery spice to bold, intense flavor, at a range of different price points. As always, these picks include brief tasting notes, a rating and the wine’s retail price, which varies from store to store and market to market.
· St. Patrick’s Day Cocktails, First Round
With St. Patrick’s Day just over a week away, it’s time to get creative with some themed drinks. (It also might be time to dust off the creme de menthe, Midori and green Chartreuse if you haven’t used them in a while.) Here’s the first round of St. Patty’s Day cocktail recipes; we’ll post more in the next week before the March 17 holiday, so send ’em if you got ’em!
The Kentucky Grasshopper
2 parts RumChata
1 part Creme de menthe
½ oz. part Bourbon
Splash heavy cream (optional)
Combine ingredients; can be enjoyed as a Martini, on the rocks, or as a sweet, layered shot.
Cheers Drink Recipes
½ oz. Rhum Clement Creole Schrubb
1 oz. Kubler absinthe
2 oz. Ice water
2 oz. Peach puree (fresh or try The Perfect Puree of Napa Valley)
3-4 Mint leaves
In a mixing glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves. Top with peach puree and Creole Schrubb. Stir well and set aside. In a small mixing cup, combine the absinthe and ice water. Fill a large bucket glass with fresh ice and strain the peach mixture over the ice. Then pour the absinthe mixture over the back of a bar spoon and float over the peach mixture, creating the “fog over the Golden Gate.” Garnish with a mint sprig and swizzle stick, and serve.
San Francisco mixologist H. Joseph Ehrmann created this cocktail to honor the fog that often dominates the Golden Gate Bridge.
· Alright, Alright, Alrigh-Tea
2 parts Sauza Blue Reposado 100% Agave tequila
3 Black tea bags
1 ½ parts Water
½ part Sugar
In a medium saucepan bring water, tea bags and sugar to a boil. Stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat let sit for 15 minutes and then remove the tea bags. When sweet tea is cool, add tequila and pour mixture into a glass filled with ice. Garnish with spring of mint.
The mixologists at Sausa created this recipe in honor of Matthew McConaughey’s Best Actor Oscar win.
