Inside the Dallas Craft Beer Scene

It’s been quite the year for craft beer in Texas—especially in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

It’s been quite the year for craft beer in Texas—especially in Dallas. The city is currently experiencing a boom in breweries, as have Houston and Austin in recent years. Dallas/Fort Worth and the surrounding areas have added six breweries to the fold in the past 18 months–and there are even more on the way.

The Houston Press’ blog is doing a series on Dallas beer, looking at a few of the hot spots in Dallas’s new-found beer economy. Part one includes a Q&A with Corey Pond, owner of The Common Table, one of Dallas’s biggest craft beer destinations. The bar and restaurant, which just celebrated its two-year anniversary this past summer, has developed a strong following in the beer world for stocking some incredible brews and pairing it back to upscale comfort food.

Pond says that, in addition to The Common Table, Dallas has had several high-quality, beer-focused places open in a fairly short time, including The Meddlesome Moth and Goodfriend’s, Shortly after that, Dallas had three quality breweries open: Deep Ellum, Peticolas and Lakewood. Dallas was late to the brewery scene so there was some pent-up demand, according to Pond

For more on Pond’s insider’s take on the current boom in Dallas/Ft. Worth brewing, the local craft beer culture, brands and operators, visit the Houston Press article.

And if you’re interested in Dallas and craft beer/spirits, check out the agenda for the 2013 Cheers Beverage Conference, which will be held in Dallas Feb. 12-13.
