Attention talented bartenders: here is your opportunity to whip up your signature Manhattan for some serious prizes.
In partnership with Woodford Reserve bourbon, Liquor.com and the USBG announced the kickoff of the 2016 Manhattan Experience. This is an annual bartender competition that challenges mixologists to “showcase their creativity and expertise through uniquely-crafted Manhattan cocktails.”
The program will take place in 34 markets around the country. Local events throughout the month of February will select winners from each region.
The Manhattan Experience will culminate with a national finale for six regional finalists on April 18 in New York.
Bartenders in participating markets can submit applications to participate online at woodfordmanhattan.liquor.com through Jan. 31.
Applicants will be asked to submit two original recipes using Woodford Reserve bourbon. In addition to a Manhattan recipe using Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select, bartenders will be tasked with creating their own Woodford Reserve Double Oaked cocktail that showcases the flavor profile of the expression.
The application also includes an optional written component on the significance of the Manhattan in today’s cocktail landscape.
The winner from each regional event will be given an all-expense paid trip to the Woodford Reserve Distillery. During the distillery visit, Master Distiller Chris Morris will lead the regional winners in a VIP tour, and the six finalists who will advance to the finale event will be announced.
The national winner will receive a feature on Liquor.com, as well as a trip to San Francisco for a photo and video shoot.
This 2016 Manhattan Experience will take place in: Arizona, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Connecticut, Delaware, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kentucky, Los Angeles, Maryland, Miami/South Beach, Milwaukee, Missouri, Nashville, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, ME, Portland, OR, Providence, San Diego, San Francisco, Savannah, Seattle, St. Petersburg, Toronto, Canada, Washington D.C., and Upstate NY.
