Boston-based Legal Sea Foods, the Boston-based restaurant brand, is heading to Chicago. According to news reports, the seafood chain will open this winter along the Riverwalk at the former Dick’s Last Resort location.
Legal Sea Foods, founded in 1950, operates 25 restaurants, primarily in Massachusetts, with locations in Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. It was acquired by PPX Hospitality Brands, parent company of Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group and The Strega Group, in 2020.
The Chicago Legal Sea Foods will be located next door to sister brand Smith & Wollensky. Legal had been operating a virtual kitchen in Chicago out of the Smith & Wollensky kitchen since 2020.
