Sonoma-Cutrer Releases Two New California Chardonnay Vintages

05/18/2022

by: Melissa Dowling

California pioneer Sonoma-Cutrer, located in Russian River Valley, has announced two new vintages: 2020 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and 2019 Les Pierres Chardonnay.

Led by Sonoma-Cutrer’s Chardonnay Winemaker Cara Morrison, these sustainable-certified varietal wines are meant to represent the winery’s goal of blending Burgundian traditions with California innovation.

“We are excited to introduce new vintages of Les Pierres and Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that showcase Sonoma County’s remarkable terroir,” says Morrison. “While each is unique, both exemplify Sonoma-Cutrer’s Chardonnay style of crisp acidity balanced by ripe fruit and oak complexity.”

The 2020 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has a pale, medium straw color. Stone fruit aromas mix with vanilla-laced oak spice, toasted nuts, light caramel and underlying floral notes, the company reports. This medium-bodied wine has flavors of ripe pear and peach. Sonoma-Cutrer’s signature acidity is balanced with a length that rounds out to a finish of barrel spice.

The 2019 Les Pierres Chardonnay features a pale straw color and aromas of lime zest, citrus blossom and bright lemon curd, the company reports. The mouthfeel combines with Sonoma-Cutrer’s citrus-laced acidity, the wine’s oak integration and flavors of melon, lime, mineral, roasted nuts and spice. The finish is juicy and spicy.

Sonoma-Cutrer’s Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (13.8% ABV) is available for a suggested retail price of $23 per 750-ml. bottle. Les Pierres Chardonnay (14.2%) is available for an SRP of $46. The wines will be available at retail locations as well as direct from the winery at sonomacutrer.com.
