Tröegs Independent Brewing has announced the release of Double Blizzard, a higher-ABV version of its longest-running seasonal IPA, Blizzard of Hops.
Clocking in at 8.3% ABV, this semi-hazy Double IPA has huge citrus and pineapple notes with a hint of soft pine, the brewery reports.
“We like to think of it as Blizzard of Hops’ big brother,” says Tröegs brewmaster and co-founding brother John Trogner.
To achieve Double Blizzard’s smoother texture and mouthfeel, Tröegs uses a cooler temperature for its kettle hop additions. This process is meant to soften the character of the Centennial, Chinook and El Dorado hops used in the beer’s recipe.
On the cold side, dry-hopping with four pounds per barrel of Chinook and Galaxy helps intensify the aroma with complementary citrus and pine notes.
A limited release for the winter season, Double Blizzard is available in 16-oz. cans everywhere Tröegs beer is sold. Customers can find this and other Tröegs beers by using the Tröegs Brew Finder.
This follows the recent release of Tröegs The Most Wonderful Beer of the Year.
