Barbados-based rum brand Mount Gay has teamed up with 4ocean to support the ocean conservation company in its mission to help end the ocean plastic crisis. This June, throughout World Ocean Month, Mount Gay will commit $5 for every bottle and $1 for every cocktail sold, up to the value of $100,000 to 4ocean’s Pound+ Program.
This contribution will directly fund the removal of tens of thousands of pounds of trash from the ocean using 4ocean’s full-time, professional cleanup crew members around the world. Billions of pounds of plastic enter the ocean each year, with more than 80% of marine debris coming from land-based sources.
In another effort to support 4ocean’s mission to end plastic pollution, Mount Gay and 4ocean in August will release an exclusive red bracelet, made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials. The bracelet will feature a one-of-a-kind trident charm, which will support the Pound+ Program.
Mount Gay’s deep connection to the ocean stems from its island roots in the birthplace of rum, the tropical climate that influences each bottle of rum and the brand’s longstanding connection to sailing. As part of its multifaceted sustainability program, Mount Gay is implementing environmental, agricultural and community initiatives, with the goal to be employing 100% sustainable agriculture by 2025.
