Cape Classics Adds Bordeaux To Import Portfolio

04/12/2017

by: The Staff

Wine importer Cape Classics, known primarily for their South African wines, announced today their first foray into Bordeaux: Château du Raux, which will launch in May.

This follows several announcements of partnerships the importer has forged with producers throughout France, including Philippe Colin, Mas Janeil (a project with winemaker François Lurton), and most recently, Vins Auvigue. In total, Cape Classics now imports 13 producers across five regions in France.

“It is with great pride and excitement that we announce representation of the graceful, estate grown and bottled Château du Raux claret from the Médoc,” says Andre Shearer, CEO of Cape Classics. “After some turbulent developments in the U.S. import environment, this winery decided to enter the U.S. market for the first time, and were looking for a trusted, reputable partner with a full national distribution footprint and who operates like a truly professional family-owned wine merchant.”

Priced at approximately $19.99 per 750-ml. bottle, the Château du Raux Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2014 is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, is full-colored and fleshy, with excellent aging potential, the company reports.

The Château du Raux estate has been in the Bernard family since 1852. Its terroir is near the Gironde Estuary. Current proprietor Patrick Bernard says, “I am both proud and thrilled that my 2014 vintage will represent Cape Classics’ entry into the Bordeaux category in the American market as a genuine expression of estate grown tradition in France and specifically, the Médoc.”

Château du Raux will be available in major states through Cape Classics’ distribution partners.
