With a Champagne shortage underway, cause by pandemic-related supply chain issues, among other factors, one Texas restaurant is encouraging New Year’s Eve guests to toast with tequila. El Paso’s Ámbar Restaurante in The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park is offering a “Tequila Toast” featuring five curated tequilas, ranging from $28 per toast to $1,750.
It helps that Ámbar is home to the largest agave spirits collection in North America, so favorites such as Patrón en Lalique and 1942 Don Julio are on the roster among the prime tequilas selected by the sommelier. In addition to fine sipping tequilas and mezcals, the restaurant carries komil, pulque and other rare Mexican spirits.
The private tasting event encourages guests to leave the bubbles behind and celebrate the new year through the lens of Mexican culture, the restaurant says. It’s not just a New Year’s Eve offering, however. The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park introduced the Tequila Toasts program this past August for weddings, the birth of a child or any private event.
