Rum has been an integral part of Puerto Rico’s culture since the 16th century. Though the sugarcane industry may have disappeared, several key distillers are still making world-class rum. Bacardi is Puerto Rico’s most well-known brand, but Don Q from Destilería Serrallés is most popular among locals and Ron del Barrilito is the oldest rum brand still in production, dating back to 1880.
You can taste all of these and lots more at Caicu Bar at the 400-room Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort in the East End section of the island. Adjacent to the lobby, the bar features 15 rum options priced from $10 to $45.
Guests can order the rums individually or create their own customized flights of premium ($30) or prestige ($60) rums. The flights include three 1-½ -oz. pours presented on a wooden board with cards that outline the rum’s production and flavor profiles. Caicu Bar also serves essential rum classic sips along with bar bites such as shrimp tacos and veggie empanadas.
