Mezcal has been my go-to spirit as of late, typically enjoyed neat paired with a crisp beer, but right now it is in a Negroni. Mostly, I enjoy spirit-forward cocktails and the Mezcal Negroni is just that. Mezcal is a versatile spirit and can be a great substitute for gin. Right now, Illegal Joven is in my liquor cabinet with Campari and Cocchi Vermouth di Torino.
My personal preference is a double base rather than equal parts. To me it results in a balanced cocktail without the Campari overpowering the mezcal. Without any citrus components aside from the fresh orange peel, this is an easy standby while hunkering down at home.
