Crafty beer Blue Moon announced in June it would be releasing Lunar Lander kegs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The brew brand, owned by MillerCoors, created just five of the limited-edition kegs, and one of the lucky recipients is Buffalo Wild Wings.
The casual dining chain announced July 17 that it would be tapping the highly coveted keg at its Viera, FL, restaurant—located just a few miles from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Guests visiting that B-Dubs location to check out the keg can enjoy $2 Blue Moon drafts from Friday, July 19 to Monday, July 21.
Blue Moon created the kegs after space company Blue Origin announced its lunar lander, also named Blue Moon, in May. The Blue Moon Lunar Lander has a large fuel tank in the middle and landing legs at its sides. The Blue Moon Lunar Lander keg took inspiration from that design, with the fuel tank replaced by the company’s signature Belgian White ale.
How did Buffalo Wild Wings manage to nab one of the five Lunar Lander kegs? The sports bar brand not only has a strong national footprint, it’s also the largest pourer of Blue Moon draft beer nationwide, according to Brian Schmidt, customer marketing manager at MillerCoors.
