Private-equity firm J.H. Whitney Capital Partners has acquired Firebirds Wood Fired Grill from Angelo Gordon & Co., according to reports. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Charlotte, NC-based Firebirds was founded in 2000 to fill a niche between higher-end and casual-dining steak concepts. The chain focuses on American cuisine with southwestern flair, featuring its signature wood-grilled steaks, seafood and burgers, as well as salads, cocktails and wine.
Private-equity firm Angelo Gordon acquired the restaurant brand in 2011, when it had 18 locations. Firebirds has since grown to 48 units and counting.
