1821 Extra Añejo Tequila Corralejo

08/25/2017

by: Kyle Swartz

Tequila Corralejo has released 1,000 cases of 1821 Extra Añejo (1821) in the U.S.

This limited-edition expression, imported by Infinium Spirits, was made from 100% Blue Weber agave at Hacienda Corralejo in Guanajuato, Mexico. The name commemorates the year of Mexico’s independence from Spain.

Corralejo employs the 400-year-old Charentais method of distillation, the company says, the same method used by the French in distilling cognac. The agave is slow cooked in stone clay ovens for 27 hours, then rested for 12 hours before going to the mill where it’s double distilled in copper pot stills.

A selection of small American oak barrels provides roasted hints, the company reports. 1821 was aged for 36 months.

The suggested retail price is $129.99 for a 750-ml. bottle of this 80-proof spirit.
