The Alex Craft Cocktail Cellar & Speakeasy, a Victorian-inspired lounge in The Graham Georgetown Hotel in Washington, DC, creates an authentic bathtub gin for its version of the classic Gin & Tonic. The Alex’s hand-steeped gin is made using a Dutch method known to emphasis sweetness, then blended with unfiltered tonic water that’s infused with lemongrass, citrus, salt and quinquina bark.
Both the gin and the tonic are then hand-carbonated simultaneously to create a light and highly effervescent Gin & Tonic, according to mixologist Daniel Barnes. Priced at $14, the Alex’s G&T is served in a miniature porcelain clawfoot bathtub with fresh mint and a silver straw.
“The expressive aromas of the cocktail are enhanced with the smell of mint,” Barnes says. “Drinking from the little bathtub is not only fun, but it allows guests to take in all of the botanicals and aromas offered in this simple but complex concoction.”
