Portuguese wines enjoyed a fine year in 2016 in America.

Wines of Portugal — the U.S. marketing campaign from ViniPortugal the Interprofessional Association of the Portuguese Wine Industry — recently released its 2016 exports report. Portugal exported 4,955,762 gallons in volume to the U.S. in 2016, an 8.8% increase over 2015, the organization says, with 67% of the total volume comprised of still wines.

Wines of Portugal also reports an increase in volume of sparkling wine as well: a 55% increase over 2015.

The new year is also promising, according to the organization. In the first quarter of 2017, Portugal exported 1,206,209 gallons of still wines to the U.S. – a 33.9% increase compared to the first quarter of 2016.

Wines of Portugal also recently released an app to to further promote the campaign around the world. The app serves as a portal for events, including event details, floor plans and wines featured, and features information on Portuguese grapes, wine regions and other facts. Wines of Portugal kicked off this year’s U.S. marketing campaign with trade events, hosting the Perspective on Portugal producer showcase in San Francisco and Los Angeles and Perfect Portuguese Pairings luncheon and master class in Miami, Seattle and San Diego. Wines of Portugal also participated in the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience and Aspen Food & Wine Classic.
