The Cooper Spirits Co. has announced its the first ultra-premium Hochstadter’s offering: Hochstadter’s Family Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey.
Aged 16 years, the 7,500-bottle limited release is a 123.8-proof, cask strength straight rye whiskey.
Hochstadter’s Family Reserve is made from 100-percent farm-grown rye grain and aged 16 years in newly charred American Oak Barrels, the company says. Sourced from Alberta Distillers Limited, this offering is bottled at barrel proof in Philadelphia, PA.
The end result is an intense, robust rye flavor. Hochstadter’s Family Reserve is meant to be savored neat or over a large ice cube and is available in limited quantities at select retailers across the nation at a suggested retail price of $199.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Robert J. Cooper, the late Founder of The Cooper Spirits Company and a long-time rye whiskey enthusiast, selected the whiskey for Hochstadter’s Family Reserve, from The Cooper Spirits Company’s library of whiskey stocks.
During the 19th century, Hochstadter’s was a range of spirits produced in New York with over 20 bottlings ranging from Batavia Arrack to Irish Whiskey and Rock and Rye. Hochstadter’s and Charles Jacquin et Cie, the Cooper family’s company, merged and the Hochstadter’s brand became part of the Cooper family portfolio until the late ‘40’s when the Hochstadter’s line was discontinued.
Cooper Spirits resurrected the Hochstadter’s brand in 2013 with the introduction of Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock & Rye. In 2015, the company introduced the second product in the Hochstadter’s portfolio, Hochstadter’s Vatted Straight Rye Whiskey, the first straight rye whiskey to use the vatted designation.
