Bache-Gabrielsen Cognac House Announces First-Ever U.S. Distribution

06/09/2016

by: Kyle Swartz

Bache-Gabrielsen, a family-owned and operated cognac house, is entering the United States market for the first time in its 111-year history.

Expanding on their success in Europe and Asia — and led by President and fourth-generation family member, Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen — the brand will introduce select super-premium cognacs to the growing aged spirits category in America, the company said in a press release.

In light of this launch, Bache-Gabrielsen is debuting a first-of-its kind expression to the United States: American Oak – the first cognac ever to be aged in American oak barrels, the company reports.

Master Blender Jean-Philippe Bergier worked with the company’s cooperage partner to determine the best oak for this particular cognac. The liquid spent a minimum of six months aging in new Tennessee oak barrels, which gives the final product “distinct character, with aromas of ripe apricot, pear and vanilla and lingering flavors of coconut, caramel and chocolate,” the company says.

“Bringing my family business to a critical market like the United States is a milestone for the brand, and we felt releasing American Oak was not only fitting for the occasion, but is evidence of our mission to consistently innovate while still honoring the tradition of this cherished spirit,” says Bache-Gabrielsen.

American Oak is currently rolling out and will be distributed nationwide at a suggested retail price of $39.99. Also now available is Bache-Gabrielsen’s VSOP and XO from their Natur & Eleganse line, a portfolio “dedicated to the ancestral methods of cognac and featuring no additives,” the company says.

Additional SKUs will be introduced over the coming months.

Bache-Gabrielsen was founded in 1905 by Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen of Holmestrand, Norway.
