Chanel Acquires St. Supery Estate Vineyards and Winery

10/21/2015

by: The Staff

Napa Valley wine just got a new French fragrance.

The French luxury brand Chanel has agreed to buy St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery, of Rutherford.

The sale is expected to be finalized later this month, according to a statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This is the first American winery purchased by Chanel, whose owners also have ownership of the French wineries Chateau Canon and Rauzan-Ségla.

“I am delighted to hand over St. Supéry to such a well-regarded company that understands luxury brands and will continue to enhance this special property,” said St. Supéry founder Robert Skalli, in the statement. “I am confident that they will continue my vision of a Napa Valley Chateau, crafting world-class estate wines, and will build on that foundation, ever improving quality.”

Skalli purchased more than 1,500 acres of Napa Valley land in 1982 and three years later bought the 52-acre parcel in Rutherford that would be the site of the estate winery. The Skallis also own vineyards and wineries in the Languedoc, Rhone Valley, Provence and Corsica.
