Patrón Spirits has launched the brand’s first extra añejo tequila. Aged for more than three years in new American and French oak barrels, the new Gran Patrón Piedra has a complex flavor profile, distinct oak taste, and smooth finish, according to the company. It’s created with a unique and ancient “Tahona” production process, in which the steam-cooked agave is slowly crushed with a two-ton volcanic stone wheel called a Tahona. The resulting juice is then fermented and distilled along with the agave fiber. Gran Patrón Piedra is available in a hand-numbered 750-ml. bottle at a suggested retail price of $399.
