Craft beer consumption tends to be driven by local brands, but the top-10 list of the overall best-selling craft brews in bars and restaurants shows that regional are expanding their reach. For instance, craft brands from California in particular are gaining ground, such as Lagunitas (Petaluma, CA), Anchor Steam (San Francisco) and Stone (San Diego), according to data from the Beverage Information Group.
Also cracking the 2013 top-10 list of the overall best-selling craft beer brands is Summit Brewing Company in St. Paul, MN. Brands that fell off the overall best-selling craft beer last year are Shiner Bock, Abita Amber, Sweetwater 420 and Dogfish Head.
The data is from the OnTrac research study, conducted annually by the Beverage Information Group. OnTrac surveys more than 2,000 on-premise accounts, including fine dining restaurants, casual-themed eateries, hotels, bars and taverns in 31 major metropolitan markets.
