Just mention the word “brandy,” and it conjures up various images, from the luxury, “bling” affiliation of Cognac and its promotion by sports stars and entertainers to the quaint image of a grandfather-type enjoying a snifter and a cigar in front of the fire. These perceptions of the venerable, grape-based spirit can be a blessing or a curse.
1½ oz. Buffalo Trace Bourbon
¾ oz. Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot Liqueur
¾ oz. Lemon juice
¾ oz. Raw sugar simple syrup
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into lowball on the rocks. Garnish with orange twist.

Offbeat Brands has added Zin-phomaniac, a provocative blended zinfandel, to its portfolio of wines targeting Millennial, Generation X and Boomer wine consumers. Zin-phomaniac is a plush, full-bodied zinfandel sourced from the renowned “old vines” of California’s Lodi region, the company says. The wine retails for a suggested retail price of $18.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Cruzan Distiller’s Collection
Cruzan Rum has unveiled the Cruzan Distiller’s Collection. This line of super-premium, blended aged rums is comprised of Cruzan Estate Diamond Dark Rum, which the company says is crafted to bring out the complex flavor of barrel-aged rum; the new Cruzan Estate Diamond Light Rum, which is charcoal filtered and contains subtle vanilla and oak cask flavors; and the popular Cruzan Single Barrel Rum, which uses a unique blend of vintage rums that have been aged for up to 12 years and bottled one cask at a time. All available nationally, Cruzan Estate Diamond Light Rum and Estate Diamond Dark Rum each have a suggested retail price of $19.99, and Cruzan Single Barrel Rum has a suggested retail price of $29.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
