American whiskey is experiencing a Bourbon boom, with category volumes and revenues growing at record levels. A new generation of customers in getting into whiskey thanks to a number of factors, including patriotism, price, cocktails and new products and flavors.
First Sip: A New Flavor for Brown Spirits

Flavored whiskeys are having an amazing affect on the category. Bars and restaurants say that the flavored varieties-honey, cherry, maple, and cinnamon, to name just a few-are attracting new converts to whiskey, including women and Millennials.
2 oz. Russell’s Reserve Bourbon
½ oz. Apricot liqueur
½ oz. Chamomile syrup*
¾ oz. Fresh lemon juice
1 Dash Angostura Bitters?
2 oz. IPA
Tarragon stalk, for garnish
Combine first five ingredients in a shaker with ice; shake and top with IPA. Add one big ice cube; garnish with fresh tarragon.
*To make chamomile syrup, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated or raw sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, and cook until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and add 1 cup fresh chamomile blossoms, allowing mixture to steep for 15 minutes. Strain out chamomile blossoms through a fine sieve.

M.S. Walker has released St. Elder, an all-natural Elderflower liqueur crafted in small batches from fresh elderflower blossoms. This artisanal liqueur features notes of white flowers, lychee, honeysuckle, citrus and alpine herb aromas, the company says, noting that it easily pairs with a variety of spirits and can be used in classic cocktails. It is available nationally for a suggested retail price of $19.99 for a 750-ml. bottle.
Tenuta dell’Ammiraglia
Marchesi de’Frescobaldi has a new line of wines now available nationally in the U.S., Tenuta dell’Ammiraglia, from Tuscany. The first wines from the Ammiraglia estate to enter the market are Vermentino Toscana IGT, a 100% Vermentino (for a suggested retail price of $18), Terre More Cabernet Maremma Toscana DOC, a blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and syrah ($18) and Pietraregia Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG ($25), which is the signature wine of the estate. Another wine, Ammiraglia Maremma Toscana IGT ($60 suggested retail price), will reach the U.S. market in 2014. The wines are represented by Folio Fine Wine Partners in Napa, CA.
