SCENE: Washington DC’s Hogo Takes on Tiki 2.0
By Kelly A. Magyarics
Tom Brown’s new D.C. bar is an authentic ode to Tiki. So don’t expect to see ticky-tacky kitsch in the form of thatched roofs or bamboo torches when you visit Hogo. The laid-back lounge is all about found art, the sense of the exotic, and, of course, rum.
1 ¼ part Grey Goose vodka
½ part Raspberry liqueur
Lemonade
3 Frozen honeydew melon balls
Fill a chilled Collins glass with ice and add vodka. Fill with lemonade to just below the rim. Float raspberry liqueur. Present with the melon balls on a cocktail pick.

Francis Ford Coppola Winery has debuted its latest addition to the Sofia label: the 2012 Sofia Chardonnay from Monterey County. Sofia wines originated with the sparkling Blanc de Blancs, a gift from Coppola to his daughter Sofia. A blend of 75% chardonnay and 25% pinot blanc, the chardonnay displays excellent balance, a supple texture and bright flavors of crisp green apple, white peaches, juicy pears, spices and a hint of citrus, according to the company. The wine’s suggested retail price is $19.
Amore Frutti
Amore Frutti is a new entry in the popular moscato wine category. The frizante moscato comes in several fruit flavors–cherry, banana, mango pomegranate, strawberry and raspberry–and can be enjoyed chilled or mixed in cocktails. The moscato is available for a suggested retail price of $7.99 to 8.99 for a 750-ml. bottle.
