Have you ever wished someone would deliver a craft cocktail to your room, or, better still, have it waiting in your room when you check in? The Godfrey Hotel Chicago in September unveiled a DIY Mixology amenity as a part of the property’s in-room dining menu.
Guests can choose from two signature drinks available at the hotel’s I|O Godfrey all-seasons rooftop bar and restaurant. The Chef ’s Margarita or the Cold Brew Manhattan will be delivered the guest’s room via room service. Each drink arrives with labeled ingredients, barware and a recipe needed to make the cocktail.
The DIY Mixology in-room option, priced at $18 per drink, makes between one and two servings with the ingredients provided. Guests may order the amenity by calling the front desk or call ahead of their stay at The Godfrey to have the cocktail waiting in their room upon arrival.
Interesting idea, though it sort of misses the point of staying at a hotel with a good cocktail bar—seeing the drink-making process, engaging with the bartender and other guests, people-watching and so on. But for the times when you want to decompress in your hotel room, it’s a nice option—better than breaking into the minibar and trying to DIY it without the ingredients.
